The news of IHG merging Kimpton, the largest chain of boutique hotels in the United States, has been in the air for awhile since 2014, and it is finally anchored now. You can now redeem IHG Rewards Club points for stays at Kimpton hotels from IHG’s website directly. They range from 40,000 to 70,000 IHG points per night. FYI, Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC for 65,000 points and Kimpton EPIC Hotel Miami for 55,000 points.
Award Travel was broadcasting SPG’s changes couple days ago. Well, its IHG’s turn now. IHG’s best rate guarantee offers to match the price you find elsewhere and give you 5x the IHG Rewards Club points for successful claims, up to a maximum of 40,000 bonus points, as modified from a free night previously.
Hong Kong is getting a St. Regis, the luxurious brand within Marriott, in early 2019. Designed by a local architect, the 25-storey St Regis HK contains 129 guest suites, includes a 320-seat banquet hall, signature Chinese and French restaurant, as well as the brand’s namesake Butler service. Marriott has more than 40 St Regis hotels worldwide, 9 of which are located in Greater China, including the Shanghai property opened in May.

Last but not least, now there are some hoops you have to jump in if you want Delta SkyMiles’ status challenges. Delta has offered their status challenge program for years. However, as of January 1, 2018, US-based SkyMiles members will also need to spend a certain amount to complete a Delta status challenge where previously you just have to earn a certain number of MQM (Medallion Qualifying Miles) or MQSs (Medallion Qualifying Segments) over the course of 90 days. Since Delta has a spend requirement for earning status, it’s not surprising to see them add this to a status challenge as well.
