Here’s an opportunity for award travelers who frequent the London Heathrow Airport to earn more Asia Miles, the award currency of Cathay Pacific Airways. Asia Miles joins a number of airline loyalty programs such as those of Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airline to allow point transfer from Heathrow Rewards to miles at a 1 to 1 ratio at 250 points increment. Currently Heathrow Rewards runs a promotion (till June 15) offering 50% bonus when transferring to Asia Miles, and 100% bonus for Premium members. Oh yes, like all loyalty program nowadays, their program has elite status too.
Singapore Airlines releases a list of discounted KrisFlyer redemption Saver awards to select destinations every month called “Spontaneous Escapes,” a 30% discount from the normal redemption rate. You’ll need to book these discounted award tickets by 31 May 2018 and travel between 1 June 2018 – 30 June 2018, with blackout dates/blackout flights, and unlike regular awards, these reservations are non-changeable and cannot be cancelled. Why so many restrictions you might ask? Because the so called “Spontaneous Escapes” is basically a “seat clearance” where the airline sell the remaining space at a discount on certain dates and flights. Don’t get me wrong, I love clearance too! So do take a look of the list of discounted flights for June to see if they happen to fit your schedule.
Marriott is entering the travel recommendations space following the success of Airbnb and Groupon. The new Marriott Moments platform, similar to “SPG Moments,” offers destination-specific collections of hand-picked activities from local celebrities and travel experts. My personal favorite is the “Exhaust Your Kids and Be the Family Hero” theme. Check out TPG’s post for more.
Here’s an overly specific promotion for you: World of Hyatt has launched a new 10% discount offer for China UnionPay member stays at participating hotels in Australia through February 28, 2019. Southwest is running an interesting new offer that award 2,500 bonus points to passengers who have PreCheck if they’re in line at the security check point for more than 10 minutes, currently only in Oakland airport as a pilot program. 2,500 Rapid Rewards point sis worth at least $30, so be sure to time your wait in line next time flying from OAK.
In credit card news, American Express has increased the welcome offers of their line up of Hilton co-brand credit cards. Offering 75,000, 100,000 and 125,000 bonus points, the three low and mid-tier Hilton credit cards requires $1,000 to $5,000 spending within 3 months. The Business version with 125,000 bonus points and $95 annual fee is especially interesting, because it has a higher bonus than the top-tier Hilton Aspire card with 100,000 bonus points and $450 annual fee. All three offers expire on June 27, 2018, and are all eligible for the refer-a-friend program. Be sure to ask your friends and families for referral links if you are interested in applying.
